It is also currently the fourth most populous city in California and the 13th most populous city in the entire US. However, San Francisco is the second-most densely populated city in Santa Clara County.

San Francisco has a captivating history that has shaped what it is now today. First founded during the 18th century under the Spaniards, San Francisco found its fortunes rising during the California Gold Rush in 1849, becoming the biggest city on the West Coast. In the decades that followed, San Francisco solidified its status as the region’s principal banking and financial center at the beginning of the 20th century. But from the 1990s onwards, San Francisco has diversified its economy away from banking and tourism to other fields such as technology and medical research.

The city, known for its significant immigration, has grown to become one of the US cities with the most racially diverse population. San Francisco’s cosmopolitan community has contributed to its utterly international character – integrating a mix of cuisines, languages, customs, and celebrations from many parts of the world that make this city’s culture unique. Oakland

Oakland is currently the third most populous city in the Bay Area and the eighth-most populous city in California. It is the largest city and county seat of Alameda County. In terms of economy and business, Oakland is a heavily industrialized city – it serves as a trade and manufacturing center for the Bay Area region.

Most importantly, Oakland is one of the busiest and most important seaports not just on the West Coast, but also in the entire United States. The city is known for being the pioneer of the intermodal containerized shipping technology, which has revolutionized international trade.

Like many cities in the Bay Area, Oakland has an ethnically diverse population, with a significant portion of African-Americans. It has several natural and man-made attractions, parks and gardens, museums, places of interest and curiosity, zoos, and a large variety of cultural events and festivals (most of them happening in downtown Oakland).

Fremont

Fremont is currently the fourth most populous city in the Bay Area. Although it is a young city, being incorporated only in 1956, it traces its roots way back centuries ago by the Ohlone or Costanoan people who settled throughout the area. During the late 18th century, the Spaniards began to build their missions in the region.

Like many other towns that experienced the California Gold Rush during the mid-19th century, Fremont turned its fortunes around and transformed itself from a quiet city to a booming area for gold miners.

However, the gold boom turned out to be short-lived. Once again, Fremont returned to be an agricultural town, but through the decades, it was able to pull itself out of becoming a mere agricultural community to become an industrialized city from the 1950s on. A tech boom from the late 1980s to the early 1990s led to Fremont’s rapid development. As a result, Fremont and surrounding cities earned the name “Silicon Valley.”

Presently, some of Fremont’s major industries include the manufacturing of computers and computer equipment, as well as the production of automobiles.
